Ten Days Calm

Day 3: Full Body Relaxation

Physical relaxation is something that may happen as a result of meditation but can be a practice of its own.

Relaxation can be completely physical and focus on the muscles of the body, the feeling of the shoulders loosening when you let out a big sigh. Or, relaxation can be mentally letting go, resting. This may be done via meditation, stopping the mind from thinking about the thing that is causing stress, or can be by switching the mind to another task which is more relaxing, maybe completing a puzzle or listening to a movie soundtrack.

Physical relaxation can be lying down listening to a recording directing you to think about and let go of various areas of your body, it can be a gentle stretch or movement to release tension. It may be sitting in a warm bubble bath.

You will come to see over these ten days that there are lots of ways of becoming calm, relaxing the physical and mental sides of the body. These all interlink and overlap and can be used together or individually to create a sense of calm. You will come to learn what works for you in different circumstances. As you experience different types of relaxation and meditation, write down how you find each experience and how you could make it work for you.
