Hi I'm Kirsty, Kirsty Smith.

As far back as I can remember I have had an interest in movement of some kind; dancing and gymnastics when I was young, and now Yoga, Pilates and other forms of group exercise.

In fact I love moving so much, I even do it in my sleep. Yes I'm a sleep walker and have lost count of the times I've woken up on my yoga mat in down facing dog or warrior 2!

I initially got into Yoga because I wanted to be a person who went to the gym and thought Yoga would be the 'easiest' class on the timetable. How wrong I was! Yes I could do the poses but was unknowingly causing pain in my joints as I didn't have the strength to support the flexibility. So I took some time out, learnt more about the benefits of yoga for building strength and support as well as flexibility. It was here I came across Pilates for core strength.

So I started back with a fresh mindset, now it wasn't about being the 'bendiest' but looking after my body and listening to those aches and pains.

Fact: Yoga is not a competition.

And so I fell in love with Yoga and Pilates. I wanted to spread my love of them to others, be the one to create that amazing feeling you have when you walk out of a class.

I love teaching group exercise and you will see me in local gyms and leisure centres teaching Les Mills BodyBalance and BodyPump alongside Yoga and Pilates.

And so once I had started teaching I knew I needed to become fitter and stronger. Teaching classes wasn’t meant to be my workout, I needed to train outside of these classes. So I started doing my own exercise in the gym and at home. I would see Personal Trainers and be a little envious.

Teaching group classes is a great way to affect a big number of people in a small way - you spend an hour a week giving them instructions to follow along to and have a bit of fun doing it, and there is a great social aspect.

But Personal Training is a great way to have a huge effect on a smaller number of people. And get a real sense of pride from seeing your clients achieve their goals all because of you. So I decided to be greedy - I wanted both. I trained and qualified to become a Personal Trainer.

My mission is to create a single place for physical and mental wellbeing.

'The Smithy Room' will combine Smithy Yoga and Pilates with Smithy Personal Training to bring together all of my knowledge in one place.
